THE SIDE-CUTTER

The Side-Cutter EAST COAST EDITION The Side-Cutter

TOGETHER WE CAN

- Get the wages and benefits we deserve.

- Have full family health care.

- Have a good retirement.

- Have pride in our craft and workmanship.

- Have dignity in the work place.

HOW CAN WE HAVE THESE THINGS?

By talking to an Organizer and then becoming a member of IBEW LOCAL UNION 756. When we are all union, we can control what our wages and benefits are.

When the contractors ask, "What is the least you will work for?", we can answer, "Union Wages and Benefits."

Our union exists for one and only one major reason.

THE GOOD OF OUR MEMBERS

As members of the IBEW, we stand together, we work together, we are one voice and we will not be ignored.

Call or stop by the Union Hall, all inquiries are strictly confidential.

BEING A BOSS IN AMERICA
REALLY PAYS !!!

In 1997, the average Corporate Boss (CEO) was paid $7.8 million, a 35% raise over the $5.8 million *1996 average pay*. The 35% leap in the

BOSSES pay was 13 times the average 2.6% raise earned by blue-collar workers and over nine times the 3.8% boost white-collar workers received in 1997.

America’s Corporate Bosses are now paid 326 times what the average American worker makes. This is the highest pay inequality among industrialized nations in the world. In comparison, Japanese Bosses make 32 times more than the average Japanese worker.

CAN ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT THESE OUTRAGEOUS SALARIES? IS THERE ANY OTHER FORCE IN AMERICA STRONG ENOUGH TO TAKE ON ORGANIZED GREED, EXCEPT ORGANIZED LABOR? THINK ABOUT IT!

SOAP BOX 98

A Quick Review Of Notable Republican Accomplishments

The GOP is fast approaching the $100 million mark investigating President Clinton. Give me this money and I could dig up dirt on anyone, but the only thing they have proved is President Clinton hugged Monica Lewinsky.

When you have nothing positive in your own party, try to destroy the other party.

I recently have read positive things concerning Ronald Reagan. Upon close examination, I find Reagan tripled our national debt and gave us trickle-down economics, which trickled up. He gave us a first lady who believed in astrology, which he apparently used as President. Most importantly, he gave us a President who was a professional actor.

One of our readers gave Reagan credit for bringing down the Soviet Union. Strangely enough, the CIA forecasted this was going to happen prior to Reagan’s election.

Newt Gingrich gave us the Contract With America, which is like his contract with his wife when he asked her for a divorce while she was terminally ill. The religious party? I don’t think so.

Nixon? He fired his prosecutor and then resigned so he could draw his hefty pension.

Hoover? Not many people remember him. My dad did, and he told me how they boiled peanuts to make a drink; only the rich Republicans could afford coffee.

One thing, if nothing else, proves who the GOP represents. Remember the bill to raise the minimum wage? Ninety-eight congressmen voted against the raise - 96 of those 98 congressmen were Republicans. I’m truly ashamed of the two Democrats.

An old proverb says that a working man voting for a Republican is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders. Amen!

DO YOU JUST BELONG?

Are you an active member,

The kind that would be missed,

Or are you just contented

That your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings

And mingle with the crowd,

Or do you stay at home

And crab both long and loud?

Do you take an active part

To help the*Union* along?

Or are you satisfied to be

The kind to "just belong"?

Do you ever go to visit

A member who is sick,

Or leave the work for just a few

And talk about the clique?

There is quite a program scheduled

That means success, if done,

And it can be accomplished

With the help of everyone.

So attend the meetings regularly,

And help with hand and heart,

Don’t be just a member,

But take and active part

Think this over, Member,

Are we right or are we wrong?

Are you an Active Member?

Or ~~Do you just belong?
